Ford Motor Co. It announced that it will recall nearly 519,000 crossovers in America due to fire risks from cracked fuel injectors. Owners are urged to get their cars inspected.
Ford announced Thursday that the recall applies to 2020-2023 model year Bronco Sport and Escape crossovers. These engines are 3 cylinder, 1.5-liter models. Many were also recalled in April as an oil separator housing crack could lead to a leak which could cause an engine fire.
Ford stated that if the engines of the vehicles included in the recall are still operating, a cracked fuel injection could lead to fuel vapor or fuel fuel accumulation near hot surfaces. This could potentially cause fire under the hood.
Ford stated that it had 54 reports of 1.5-liter under-hood fires. Fourteen of these were caused by cracked fuel injectors. Another 13 were likely caused by a leaking fuel injection. The recall is not linked to any deaths.
Dealers will make repairs and update the vehicle software. This will detect if a fuel injector has cracked and send a message to drivers.
